From the minute Choowee was created, one thing I was adamant on, was quality. Why would anyone buy a cookie from Choowee when they could buy a cookie from a supermarket for a fraction of the cost? This might be business suicide by saying that out loud, but it’s the truth and if you follow us then you will know we are all about transparency, no filters!
Well quality, that is the answer! When you bite into a Choowee cookie, you can immediately tell that it is made with quality ingredients and not mass produced using a tonne of preservatives and other unknown ingredients that increase its longevity but also tarnishes the taste.
We use British butter, no marg here! Life is far too short to use margarine! Just the word makes me shudder. The creaminess of butter takes any baked product to the next level. So that’s my tip for any budding bakers out there, if the recipe gives you the option, go with butter to take the taste to the next level! You won’t regret it!
We’ve just started using the most incredible vanilla puree from a small UK based company that ethically sources vanilla from Madagascar. Based in Seaham, County Durham, this small business is exactly what we look for in a supplier. Conscientious and considerate to their supply chain and what it means to the wider world. This is a huge step forward for us to take our products to the next level of quality. It’s the small changes that have the biggest impact.
Our eggs, (and we use a tonne of eggs), are all from local family egg farms that I collect myself directly from their farm. We are so lucky to have an amazing local family that have been supplying us for years with their delicious eggs and they are another reason why our cookies taste so good! Proper fresh local eggs!
All of our ambient ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa powder etc) is all purchased from The Green Life Pantry in Market Rasen. An amazing shop that is zero waste, plastic free, weigh your own refill shop. It has so many amazing British ingredients, not to mention a peanut butter machine, coffee, tea, toiletries and so much more. Jenny runs an amazing business and is probably the kindest person I work with. She bends over backwards for us and she also sells our cookies in the shop too!
So when you take that first bite, remember that is tastes so good because of the quality ingredients, handmade by us. And the magic is, when you support Choowee, you are also supporting those other local, family-run businesses too!
