The Cookie Project

The Cookie Project

By Sian Potter

A few years ago, when Lucy from Cambridge Park Academy in Grimsby reached out and asked if I would consider running a cookie workshop with students, I jumped at the chance! To be able to share my passion for baking with others is an opportunity I wasn’t going to miss. After all, it’s how I got started so why not share the love?

The students at Cambridge Park have a varied level of learning capabilities which, at first, I was cautious about as I have never worked within the educational system before and I was unsure how the instructions I was giving would suit each individual's needs, but wow - I massively underestimated these students!

Firstly, as soon as I stepped into the building, I was blown away by the kindness of the staff and students. It was a calm and welcoming environment where I immediately felt at home. The students were so excited to welcome us and keen to get started.

Mum and I set everything up in front of the eagle-eyed students and we began the fun! After two hours the students had made thirty-two beautiful and delicious cookies. The academy has truly supported its students in becoming independent and confident young people who are an inspiration.

Since our first visit, we have continued to visit Cambridge Park over the last two years; something Mum and I both thoroughly enjoy.

We were treated to a tour of their new animal department this year too which is an amazing facility where the students can learn about animal care.

Now I know the students get a lot from the workshops and Lucy tells us they thoroughly enjoy it, but I can honestly say that the days we spend at Cambridge Park Academy are some of the most rewarding and enjoyable days I’ve had on my cookie journey to date. We cannot wait for the next one!

Want to get involved?

We are on the lookout for any other local organisations that would benefit from a similar experience. It's completely free to get The Choowee Cookie Company involved, we bring along all of our own equipment, ingredients and instructions; we just need an oven and worktop space.

Please get in touch if you think your organisation could benefit from The Cookie Project!
